My Story

Rich Mutts is the son of an African-American father (James) and an Italian-American mother (Deborah). Growing up bi-racial, he developed a unique perspective of cultural differences, similarities, and the connection that equity and inclusion have with race. Earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Family Services from the University of Connecticut and also a Masters of Arts in Organizational Leadership from Concordia University (Irvine), Rich has dedicated his life work to Education , leadership and Influence through a DEI Lens.

In 2019, he released the acclaimed "Born Rich'' EP and a documented series spotlighting Social Justice . After spending the year traveling across the country performing and public speaking, Revolt Television picked the project which is currently being aired. After launching the Born Rich Foundation in 2020, Rich continues to use his gifts and to shed light on inequalities and injustice throughout the U.S.

From 2021-2024 Rich served as the lead coordinator in the Equity and Inclusion office and pre-collegiate services at Wesleyan University (CT) where  he designed and implemented programs for first-generation and low-income students and families related to college access, internships, scholarships, and career readiness. Before Wesleyan, he was the interim DEIB director at Meriden Children First, a non-profit, where he led the strategic planning process of DEI commitment and action to improve cultural awareness and increase inclusivity and representation of underrepresented students and parents. In the summer of 2024, Rich was appointed as the Director of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging at Kingswood Oxford Independent School in West Hartford, CT.

“Each community we serve has unique challenges or areas of development. Unlike traditional organizations that utilize one size fits all  service methods, we’ve created the Community Centered Learning (CCL) approach. This allows us to empower communities in the specific ways they NEED and WANT to be supported.” - BRF
